Chapter Eight

Caught up in a post-coitus haze, Hailey snuggled into Andrew’s chest as he walked through her apartment with her in his arms. He paused in-between the doors to both bedrooms.

“It’s that one,” she murmured, pointing to the room on the right.

He carried her inside and deposited her on the full-size bed that took up most of the space in her tiny room.

Her bones felt like liquid, allowing her to do no more than roll onto her back and watch him.

Straightening to his full height, he looked down at her with hooded eyes. His impassive expression made her stiffen, fearing he was about to leave. But then he lifted his shirt over his head, displaying the stark angles of his pectoral muscles and washboard abs.

He’s so beautiful. More so without clothes, even if they did showcase his killer body.

He seemed more approachable without the barrier of clothing. Less rigid.

“Mm.” She languidly trailed her fingers down her stomach, enjoying the tickle of sensation along her hypersensitive flesh. “How come I always seem to end up the only one naked?”

Andrew let out a low laugh as he kicked off his shoes and removed his socks. “Not sure, but it works for me.”

She didn’t mind so much either. Not when it got her the most amazing orgasms she’d ever had in her life.

Andrew unbuttoned his pants and slid them down his body along with his briefs.

Her breath caught and she looked on with unabashed appreciation. His cock hung thick and heavy between his legs. He was truly a perfect specimen of manhood. Even if she hadn’t known what pleasure he was capable of, she still wouldn’t have been able to stop staring.

“You have an amazing body,” she said.

“So do you.” The way he looked at her as he joined her on the bed told her he meant it. He nestled in beside her and pulled the cover over them.

She turned to her side and snuggled into him, drinking in his heat and the heady, masculine scent of satisfied male. “You’re a good lover, too.”

He grinned at that, sliding one arm beneath his head. “I know.”

Laughing, she trailed her fingers along his taut abs, memorizing every ridge and curve. They contracted everywhere she touched. Answering sparks of awareness pulsed through her fingertips. “This is nice.”

“Yeah.”

But even though he’d agreed with her, something shadowed his eyes. It made her pulse race and her throat dry. She wasn’t ready for this to be over. Wasn’t ready for him to leave yet.

Her fingers traveled up his chest. A small scar marred his skin just beneath his left pectoral. It triggered a long forgotten memory. She lifted up to better examine it, supporting her head on her elbow.

“Remember when you got this scar?”

He gave her a crooked smile.

“Bone Island,” they both said simultaneously.

She traced the jagged edges as the memories washed over her. One summer, shortly before Andrew’s mother had died and he’d disappeared from their lives, she and Evan had taken to walking to the nearby bay with Andrew and his siblings.
